All of my pottery is made from Porcelain or Stoneware clay. I fire to Cone 6 making each piece extremely durable. I have created all items by hand using my Pottery Wheel and/or molds in what I call my "Sturagio" .....Studio/Garage 😁 After the piece has dried, the item is bisque fired for (approx. 1945 degrees F) up to 14 hours in my Kiln. This fire removes any water in the clay and prepares the piece to be glazed. Once glazed, it is then fired again to Cone 6 (2230 degrees F). This last firing can take up to 36 hours to complete.
Because all of my items are hand-made, they are not identical or perfect. Identical or perfect pieces are something you would get with commercially made, large quantity items. It is nearly impossible to replicate something as you never know what the Kiln is going to give you. Because of this I do not offer custom orders at this time.
You may see different lines, indents, or small variations in size and shapes. All this occurs with the handling and manipulation of the clay. Variations also happen with glazing and the different hues in colors that occur with application techniques. This is part of the handcrafted pottery process, making the piece fun, one of a kind, and truly unique. Please review the measurements listed to ensure the item is the correct size for you.
I only use non-toxic commercial glazes on all of my pottery, making the pieces food-safe, microwave-safe, oven-safe, plant-safe, pet-safe and dishwasher-safe. No special care needed, as I hope you will use your pottery every day. The only thing to avoid, as with all ceramic and/or glassware, is moving a piece from one extreme temperature to another. For example, taking a casserole/baking dish or bowl from the refrigerator to a heated oven. This "thermal shock" can cause the piece to crack or break. Please take time to allow pieces to warm up and/or cool down slowly.
The energy used to power my kiln (nick-named "Burnie") comes from our solar panels. The small amount of water that is needed to work the clay comes from the buckets kept in the shower (as we wait for the hot water to arrive) and the collected condensation from the air conditioning unit...because every little drip counts! Finally, all of my packing and shipping materials are either renewed or reused. I'm hoping these small gestures will help our planet.
All macrame items and plant holders are made with 100% natural cotton rope or cord. They can be used indoors or outdoors and have proven to be durable as I have had hanging items outside for numerous seasons. The driftwood used in the wall hangings and multi-plants holders are all one of a kind, truly unique, and beautiful. They come from the shores of Battery Point Lighthouse or Point St. George of Northern California.
I do my best to ship items in a timely manner and ask that you review Shipping and Policies. I cannot be responsible for delays in shipping time once items have been received by USPS, UPS or any other shipping partners used. I am unable to refund purchases for items that are delayed once shipping partners have items in possession. If item(s)s are broken during shipping, I require pictures of the item(s), packing material that was used and the shipping box in order to file a claim to refund your purchase. The Post Office has recently required all these pictures to file a claim. All boxes are clearly marked fragile. Shipping materials are either reused or renewed and in no way affect your purchase. My priority is that your items(s) arrive to you safely.
